Book Appointments with the Bishopric (Temple recommend appointments, etc)
The gift of the Holy Ghost is the pure expression of God’s perfect love. Through Him, we feel peace in storms, comfort in sorrow, truth in confusion, and joy in righteousness. As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we are blessed to receive this gift following baptism—not just as a momentary presence, but as a constant companion: a companion who has earned God’s trust and respect for the work he does.
The Savior described the work the Holy Ghost would do for mankind when he taught his disciples and this is what He said,
John 14:16-17
"And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may
abide with you for ever;
Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you."
The Holy Ghost is a gift of abiding comfort and truth. He stays with us always, expressing God's perfect love by never leaving us alone guided by a clear understanding of our agency and God’s plan of salvation. I like it when He intervenes when I don’t deserve it: a great example for us to follow.
John 14:26
"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."
The Holy Ghost lovingly teaches and reminds us of Christ’s words, helping us grow in
understanding and faith. His love is unfeigned. His patience-perfect. His willingness to NOT give us what we want when a greater plan is in force is one of the greatest manifestations of His love. His intent and purpose is truly driven by perfect love.
John 15:26
"But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even
the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:" The Holy Ghost bears pure testimony of Jesus Christ—a loving witness that strengthens our own testimony and brings us peace when our faith is challenged.
John 16:13-14
"Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he
shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he
will shew you things to come.
He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you."
This one is one of my favorite verses. If you want to understand the love your Savior has for you, read this verse over and over until you understand how the Holy Ghost is giving you exactly what the Savior asks Him to give. Think of the times you received comfort, or correction, peace, guidance, and revelation. All of these are from the Savior himself delivered through His abiding spirit.
There are many more verses to share and I can’t say that I did the Holy Ghost justice but I love Him. I worship Him as an honest expression of the reality of God and His perfect love for all of His children on this earth. I will end with this one.
Galatians 5:22-23
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness,
faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."
May we become as He is.
